Company Description
IRMAA Navigator is an educational platform that helps financial and insurance professionals understand IRMAA and its impact on Medicare costs. Through expert-led education and practical strategies, the platform equips agents to navigate Medicare surcharges, strengthen retirement planning, and provide more informed guidance to their clients.
Problem
IRMAA Navigator began with a strong concept for an educational program but lacked a visual identity or established creative direction. The challenge was to build a brand from the ground up that could stand out within the traditionally conservative insurance industry while feeling approachable, energetic, and engaging. The identity needed to make a complex financial topic feel more accessible and create a more entertaining learning experience for insurance professionals.
Solution
I developed a visual identity that made IRMAA education feel more energetic, approachable, and engaging while maintaining the credibility expected within the financial and insurance industry. Bright, contrasting colors bring energy to the brand, while an illustration-driven style creates a more relaxed learning environment for agents working through intensive courses and complex topics. Bold, highly legible typography was selected to keep educational materials clear and comfortable to read over extended periods. The logo symbol uses rounded corners to feel friendly and inviting while forming a compass-inspired mark, representing the guidance and direction IRMAA Navigator provides as agents navigate the complexities of IRMAA. Together, these elements created a distinctive and cohesive system that could extend across educational materials, marketing, and the website concept.
Outcome
IRMAA Navigator successfully launched with a distinctive visual identity that helped establish the new educational program within the insurance industry. Within its first month, more than 60 agents enrolled in the program, providing early validation for the new platform and its educational offering. The flexible brand system also provided a foundation for expanding the program across future courses, educational materials, marketing campaigns, and digital experiences.
Research
The process began by exploring the insurance and financial education landscape to understand how IRMAA Navigator could differentiate itself from more traditional industry brands. I considered the needs of insurance agents completing intensive courses on complex topics and identified opportunities to make the learning experience feel more approachable, engaging, and visually interesting. These insights established a direction that balanced professional credibility with energy and personality.
Concepts
Using the research as a foundation, I developed multiple logos with another designer on the team and visual identity concepts exploring different ways to represent education, guidance, and navigation. Several meetings were held throughout the concept phase to review the directions, gather feedback, and determine which concept best represented the goals of the program. The selected direction centered around a compass-inspired symbol, reinforcing IRMAA Navigator’s role in helping guide agents through a complicated subject.
Refinement
Once the primary direction was selected, I refined the logo, typography, color system, and supporting visual elements into a cohesive identity. Pink tones that were initially more prominent were removed from the primary color scheme and repositioned within the secondary palette as accents. This created a more balanced and versatile core palette while maintaining the bright, contrasting colors and energetic personality that differentiated the brand. Typography, illustrations, and supporting elements were also refined with readability and extended educational use in mind.
Finalization
The completed identity was developed into a flexible visual system that could extend across educational materials, marketing collateral, and digital applications. I also collaborated with another graphic designer on the team to establish a foundational website concept, providing the layout, visual direction, and overall design language they could build from as the website moved forward. This helped the digital experience remained aligned with the brand while allowing for a smooth transition between designers. Final assets provided a consistent foundation that could continue evolving as IRMAA Navigator introduced new courses, materials, and marketing initiatives.
