This award-winning college project explored the redesign of a book cover for a 2017 science fiction novel that immediately captured my interest through its futuristic setting and complex story of power, legacy, and conflict. Set within a society established on the Moon, the story follows a once-powerful dynasty fighting to reclaim what it lost as tensions between competing powers escalate into war. The project challenged me to translate these themes into a compelling visual identity that captured the atmosphere of the novel while creating a distinctive interpretation of the story.

While attending college, I was challenged to redesign the cover of Luna Wolf Moon by developing a new visual interpretation of the novel. I approached the project with the goal of moving away from traditional science fiction imagery and creating something more approachable and visually unexpected. The challenge was to use a friendly, minimalist illustration style while still capturing the novel’s futuristic setting, underlying tension, and complex themes of power and conflict.

I developed a visual direction using purples and pinks inspired by the original color palette, creating a dark yet calm atmosphere that complemented the novel’s futuristic setting. Before moving into digital production, I explored a series of stylized, two-dimensional thumbnail sketches to establish the composition and overall direction. I selected the concept with the most approachable feel and developed it further in Photoshop, using flat shading to introduce depth while preserving the clean, minimalist illustration style.
